6 Best Skincare Tips for Oily Skin

Knowing your skin better and helping it glow

Want to stop oily skin and its unpleasant side effects? Here we have 6  best skincare tips for oily skin and large pores. There is a fact that oily skin usually occurs in combination type with enlarged pores and impurities. A problem that many of us are familiar with is the shine and stickiness in the face even after giving it a good dab of foundation.  Not a really glamorous appearance that we would like to walk with.

We explain to you the reason that causes your skin to be oily and tell you the best skincare tips getting it under control!

Oily skin: What is the cause?

The increased production of skin fat is to be one of the causes of our oily skin, which is called ‘sebum’ in the cosmetic language. Its job is to keep the surface of the skin supple, to slow down the loss of moisture and to protect it from external influences.

Normal skin produces as much of it as it needs – without shining. However, the sebaceous glands of the oily skin are always in full swing. The excess sebum collects on the surface of the skin and creates an unsightly shine there.

How do large pores develop?

It is a kind of ‘structural weakness’ that ensures that oily skin often becomes a real problem. The top layer of skin is not only thickened and poorly supplied with blood (which explains why oily skin often looks pale).

It is also designed so that the individual skin cells on the surface cause additional trouble. Like the scales of a pine cone, they protrude into the opening of the sebum canal, preventing the sebum from flowing out. It builds up in the sebaceous gland exit and causes it to widen. As a result, ‘worn out’, visible pores are an unsightly side effect of oily skin.

Oily skin isn’t just the face

Oily skin is usually unpleasantly noticeable, especially on the face, but other areas of the skin can also be affected, such as the scalp (which can often lead to oily hair at the hairline), shoulders, back, or chest area. Because depending on the body area, the sebaceous glands differ in size and accordingly produce more or less sebum.

Oily skin is prone to blemishes

As if that wasn’t enough, oily skin offers bacteria ideal breeding ground. Sebum is on the menu of bacteria whose metabolites trigger inflammation of the sebaceous glands. If they are not stopped with the right care, pimples are inevitable. In severe cases, acne can even occur.

What is the best Skincare for oily skin?

This is the good news: With the right skin or face care and the right products for your skin type, you can prevent blackheads, pimples, acne, etc.

Here are 6 Best Skincare Tips to make your oily skin less prone to blemishes:

Step 1: Brake Sebum Production

Those who want to say goodbye to the oily skin forever should avoid or consider the following factors:

The sebaceous glands of the skin very sensitive to hormonal changes, such as during the female cycle or during puberty. A too high proportion of male sex hormones (androgens) in the female body can stimulate sebum production, among other things. Heat, mechanical stimuli such as rubbing or aggressive cleaning also cause the sebum glands to overreact.

Important: Stress is also one of the recognized triggers for increased oil production in the skin. Active relaxation and avoiding stress are not only good for the psyche, but also for the skin!

Step 2: Keep Pores Free

Thorough cleaning is essential for oily skin – to keep the pores free and to prevent the growth of pimple-forming bacteria.
Because aggressive cleaning products and strong rubbing are counterproductive, the motto is: thorough but gentle.
Use a mild, pH-neutral washing gel and wash your face with it in the morning and evening. Attention: The water should only be lukewarm, not hot! You don’t want to burn that beautiful skin. Then gently pat the skin dry with a towel – rubbing is a big no!

If you have oily skin, you should exfoliate once a week. It keeps the pores free, removes calluses, and promotes blood circulation in the deeper layers of the skin. In short: a gentle peeling improves the complexion.

Products that combine chemical substances such as salicylic acid or enzymes with fine, rounded scratch particles are ideal. Peels with coarse, sharp-edged abrasives are an absolute no-go!

Tip: It doesn’t necessarily have to be a purchased product. There are tons of home remedies you can make use of.

Step 3: Clear that Greasy Skin

After a thorough cleaning, you should tone the oily skin. Use a facial toner for this. In contrast to other skin types, oily skin definitely benefits from products with alcohol (ethanol) because they have a disinfectant effect. But this is also achieved by active ingredients such as zinc PCA, betaines, or triclosan.

What else should be in the toner?

An active ingredient:

  • that narrows the enlarged pores; such as witch hazel extract
  • that inhibits the flow of sebum; such as benzoyl peroxide, hydrolyzed soy protein or vitamin A acid
  • that soothes the skin; such as allantoin or bisabolol

Put the tonic on a cotton pad and gently run it over the entire face. The skin should then feel refreshed and cool. However, if it turns red or tense, you should switch to a milder product.

Step 4: Fat-free Skincare

One thing oily skin definitely doesn’t need is more fat! ‘Oil-free’ is the magic word that you should pay attention to. However, all oily skin needs are moisture. Be sure to apply a moisturizing cream or gel after cleaning.

In addition to moisture, care products especially for oily skin often contain ingredients that on the one hand inhibit the flow of sebum and on the other hand reduce skin shine. Such gloss stoppers are especially recommended for morning care. In the evening, oily skin is happy with a fat-free serum and a light night cream.

Also note the addition: “non-comedogenic”. This care contains no substances that have been proven to clog the pores (such as cocoa butter or wool fat).

Make sure that you choose products according to your age! The oily skin of a 35-year-old needs different products than that of a teenager.

As you age, you need products that have anti-aging properties, balance the oil production, and does not dry out the skin too much.

Step 5: Tie Up Excess Fat

The sebum production of the skin is not the same all day long. It peaks at noon while at its lowest level around eleven in the evening. Oil-free make-ups, the special texture of which absorbs and binds excess skin oil, are recommended as a make-up basis. Matting powder reinforces this effect.

Constant powdering is not a really good idea! The powder combines with the sebum, i.e. the skin fat, to form an unsightly layer that magically attracts bacteria.

Degrease the skin as much as possible before powdering. When you start looking greasy and you feel like it’s time to mattify your skin, matting blotting papers are the right choice. They absorb the excess skin fat and keeps your skin matt it in this way.

Step 6: Best Skincare for Oily Skin

Clarifying masks with white clay or healing clay is good for oily skin and large pores. They degrease the skin thoroughly without drying it out and bring the out of control sebum glands to a rest.

Applied once or twice a week, the face masks effectively contribute to the visible matting of the skin and counteract the development of impurities.

A face mask can also be beneficial in clarifying your skin. For example, face masks with kaolin: it absorbs excess skin fat like a sponge and is therefore ideal for clearing up impure skin.
